In this dynamic and expressive class, young dancers will be introduced to the foundational elements of contemporary dance through the inspiring works of pioneers like Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and other influential artists. Students will explore how dance can tell stories, express emotion, and break the rules of traditional movement.
Each class will include a warm-up focusing on alignment, breath, and strength, followed by exercises that introduce key techniques such as Graham's contraction and release, Cunningham's use of chance and space, and other modern influences. Dancers will also explore improvisation and creative movement, encouraging individuality and confidence in self-expression.
This class nurtures both technical growth and artistic exploration, giving dancers the tools to build strong foundations while discovering the freedom and creativity that contemporary dance offers. Perfect for curious movers ready to connect movement with meaning!
